Trujillo y Chiclayo
Day 01: Lima / Trujillo
Early in the morning transfer to the airport to take the flight to the city of Trujillo. Arrival, welcome and transfer to the hotel.
In the morning visit to the colonial centre of the city of Trujillo. Tour of the Plaza de Armas where the monument to La Libertad stands out, and beautiful colonial buildings such as the Cathedral and the Urquiaga House.
Then visit the Emancipation House where the Independence of Peru was proclaimed seven months before it was done in Lima, and the Itúrregui Palace, a beautiful neoclassical mansion currently home to the Central Club of Trujillo.
Free lunch.
In the afternoon, visit one of the haciendas near the city of Trujillo to enjoy the Traditional Show of the Peruvian Paso Horses and the Marinera Norteña, two of the most representative cultural expressions of Peru.
The Peruvian Paso Horse is distinguished from other breeds by its elegant appearance and the particular way it moves with its smooth four-beat gait.
The Marinera, a dance of courtship resulting from the Spanish, indigenous and African crossbreeding; whose name was given in honour of the Peruvian Navy.

Day 02: Trujillo
Breakfast at the hotel.
Visit to the Archaeological Complex of Chan Chan (UNESCO – World Cultural Heritage), considered the largest mud citadel in America and capital of the ancient Chimu Empire (1000 – 1470 A.D.).
The tour begins with a visit to the site museum and continues through the streets and squares of the archaeological complex composed of ten walled complexes, among which the Nik An Palace stands out.
Visit to Huanchaco, Trujillo’s traditional seaside resort and artisanal fishing port where dozens of fishermen set sail daily on the famous Caballitos de Totora (reed), traditional boats made according to ancient techniques inherited from the Chimus.
Typical lunch in a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit the Huacas de Moche Archaeological Complex, located 8 km. south of the city of Trujillo.
Impressive urban complex, built-in adobe, belonging to the Moche culture (200 – 800 A.D.) formed by squares, houses and avenues located between the great truncated pyramids of the Sun and the Moon.
The Huaca del Sol concentrated the political and administrative power, and the Huaca de la Luna was a ceremonial centre. In the Huaca de la Luna, the only one open to tourism, you can appreciate beautiful friezes and polychrome murals dedicated to the god Aia-Paec.
Finally, visit the Huacas de Moche Museum where you can see the objects discovered in the complex during the archaeological works.

Day 03: Trujillo / El Brujo / Chiclayo
Breakfast at the hotel.
Departure to the north towards the city of Chiclayo. En route tour to the town of Magdalena de Cao and continuation to the Archaeological Complex El Brujo.
This extraordinary Moche site (200 – 800 A.D.) is composed of three large buildings: Huaca Prieta, Huaca Cortada and Huaca Cao Viejo where the Señora de Cao was found, the first female ruler to be discovered in Peruvian archaeology.
Then visit the Cao Museum where the archaeological findings made in the area are exhibited and put in context, as well as the tattooed mummy of the Señora de Cao.
After the visit, continuation to Chiclayo.
Lunch on route.
Arrive in Chiclayo and check-in at the hotel.

Day 04: Chiclayo / Lima
Breakfast at the hotel.
In the morning, visit the Huaca Rajada Archaeological Complex, located 35 km. east of Chiclayo, and belonging to the Moche culture (220 – 800 A.D.).
In 1987, the intact tomb of the Lord of Sipan, a Moche ruler who was buried with all his belongings, was found. Due to the importance and richness of the discovery, it is considered the greatest archaeological discovery in America in the 20th century. In the place is the replica of the tomb.
Continuation to the archaeological complex of Tucume, located 33 km. north of Chiclayo, and belonging to the Sicán or Lambayeque culture (1000 – 1370 AD).
Entrance to the Site Museum where the archaeological findings of the site are exhibited, and the mythical foundation of the place by the god Naylamp is explained.
The archaeological site, known as the Valley of the Pyramids, is composed of 26 truncated adobe pyramids that are located around the Purgatorio Hill constituting a nucleus of political, administrative and religious power in the region, which also had Chimú and Inca occupation.

Finally, visit the impressive Royal Tombs Museum.
The museum was specially designed and built to house the Sipan Treasures. Here are exhibited the pieces of incalculable beauty and archaeological value found in the Tomb of the Lord of Sipan, and other excavations of the Huaca Rajada Archaeological Complex.
At appropriate time transfer to the airport to take the late afternoon flight to the city of Lima.
